Nananana Makaki'i - Spiderman

The Hawaiian Happy Face Spider (Theridion grallator) or in Hawaiian, nananana makaki'i is endemic to Hawai'i. It can be found on the islands of O'ahu, Moloka'i, Maui, and Big Island. The spider can differ in pattern from island to island depending on their diet but still maintains a "happy face" on its body which helps the spider camouflage against birds and other predators. You can find the spider in the rainforests of the islands beneath leaves of plants where it builds its webs and hunts for food at night.

  1. I remember that the Happy Face Spider is endemic to Hawaii from my biology class I took last year. Iʻve always wanted to see one in person, because I think this spider is so unique and kind of cute haha. Great post!

  2. I usually don't have any problems with spiders, but this one actually looks terrifying to me! I didn't even know that we have them here on O'ahu. I honestly don't know what I would do if I saw one (probably run away screaming xD). Thanks for the post!
